310 Studio were comissioned to find a solution to protect the void beneath an existing stair at the Wellcome Gallery Library. The chalenge was to avoid ‘filling in’ the space below the stair thereby losing the stairs perceived lightness. It all worked out rather well!
We’ve been invited to explore mixed-use development opportunities for a site in Bristol and are exploring the possibilities of reflective soffits and colourful play surfaces!
The Studio’s carefully-crafted, bespoke handrail extensions for the Wellcome Collection Gallery have completed ensuring that the historic staircase is compliant with modern safety regulations without compromising its character and beauty. The entire installation, manufactured by West Country Blacksmiths, relies on bespoke clamping mechanisms and no mechanical fixings into the sensitive existing stonework.
Impact Testing of the existing fixtures has taken place at the Wellcome Collection Gallery to ensure that 310 Studio’s proposed handrail extensions are technically achievable - thankfully the proposals passed with flying colours!

The Studio’s beautiful, contemporary rear extension to a handsome Victorian property in London’s Fulham has completed and is looking rather refined indeed!
The steels have arrived on site in Texas! Additional floor trusses going in next week and extra long white bricks from ‘The ol’ Texas Brick Company’ the week after ….Yeeeehaw !
Not all loft and rear ground floor extensions are alike, and when considered together, as is the case at Seymour Road, they can provide a beautiful balance to a rear elevation, not to mention immeasurably improved connections to the garden!

3|10 Studio’s mixed use development of 5 flats over a commercial unit has completed on Balham High Road in London. The scheme replaces a two storey building and was built over the Northern Line Tube Station which required careful coordination of the structural desing with LUL and TFL. Interior photos to follow shortly!

Lo_Coat - A coat hanger adapter to enable wheelchair users, people of short stature and children to hang their own coats on standard height coat hanger rails. Making hanging jackets and coats more accessible to everyone.
Designed in Bristol, manufactured in Yorkshire and developed as part of ongoing works with the Wellcome Collection in London, the first 80 units of the product have been delivered to site last week amid much jubilation! …some better photos to follow soon !

3|10 Studio have been appointed to undertake a review of the Grade 2* listed estate of Howell’s School, Llandaf.
The School’s estate comprises many buildings including the original school designed by one of the patriarchs of 19th Century Architectural Society and friend to a young Queen Victoria; Decimus Burton! Exciting times ahead!
310 Studio were comissioned to design a solution to the very low handrails of the original marble staircase within the Wellcome Collection’s beautiful 1932 Gallery building and were excited to receive a mock-up prototype from the fabricator this week. The design has been very carefully designed to avoid fixing through or damaging the existing marble staircase handrail and assumes a curved bronze and black metal pallete to sit comfortably with the existing materials.
It would seem everyone is spending more time in their gardens! Here’s a rather nice garden room we’ve been working on, with beautiful blue tiles hand made by Granby Workshop in Liverpool.

310 studio are nearing completion on designs for a contextually sensitive development of 5 new-build homes in Northamptonshire. The scheme is targeting a zero-carbon, environmentally responsible build that enhances the fringes of the handsome village in which it is located.
Continuing in the practices excellent track record of success with ‘difficult’ planning applications, 310 studio have won planning approval for the addition of a new apartment on the roof of an existing building in a highly sensitive location in the centre of Bristol.. Here’s looking forward to the detail development!
